It’s Friday, and I have some wonderful news! My amazing critique partner, Brenna Aubrey, is the grand prize winner for the Jane Austen Made Me Do It contest!!! Her short story, The Love Letter, will be published in an anthology alongside some pretty amazing authors. I’m so thrilled for her! The anthology will be available Oct. 11, so don’t forget to snatch up your copy. You can read more at http://brennaaubrey.net/jane-austen-made-me-do-it/.
I also have some good news of my own. I finally finished the revisions for the Siren story! Yay! Now, it’s in the hands of my other amazing critique partner, Jennifer Haymore. She’s already warned me the comments aren’t going to be pretty, so I’m trying to prepare myself for that. lol
You know, I’ve been at this writing thing for a while and I’ve gotten pretty good at weathering criticism from people I don’t know personally. My voice just isn’t for everyone and I’m completely okay with that. It’s harder with my critique buddies. I trust their opinions and I desperately want them to love the story as much as I do. I have to remind myself that it isn’t their job to love everything I write. They have to look at the story with a critical eye and tell me honestly what they think. It’s that honesty that makes the story stronger in the end, even if it’s painful to hear.
So, this weekend, pray for me. I have a feeling I’m going to need it!
